Ringworms In Kids on Causes ringworm:

Question by erin8888: Ringworm mystery – what is causing this?
I babysit a 9 month old boy twice a week. His mom named me these days to tell me that he had ringworm on his bottom. The medical doctor said it was likely due to exposure to dogs. I have two dogs so immediately the mom thought that was the problem.

So did I till I created some phonecalls. I called my vet and they stated the dogs would have some sores or raw spots. But my dogs show no signs of ringworm. My husband and I checked them out completely and did not see anything. They have lovely shiny coats and no red spots.

Exactly where would this child pick up ringworm? As properly, his rash is in the diaper area and he has not been circumcised. Could this be the difficulty? Bacteria expanding from there?

I am asking this due to the fact I do not think he picked it up right here but his mom certainly thinks he did. Likely, she will uncover another sitter. Please help if you can!!!!

Ringworm is caused by a fungus that can adhere to clothing, linens, be carried by animals etc. Last year I got ringworm on my arm – no one else in my family had it, my dog didn’t have it, and once I treated it it never came back. To this day we still don’t know exactly where it came from. It might be the same case with this child – you might never know where it came from.
Tell the mother that you thoroughly checked your dogs and they do not have ringworm – let her know that you would still like to babysit her son and will follow all instructions for treating the ringworm. If she doesn’t want you to babysit anymore there is nothing you can do to change her mind.
