A tiny over a month ago I adopted a cat with ringworm. I was told that wasn’t what it was by the prior owner but a vet proved otherwise. I was offered a sulfur dip & sent home.
I have other animals (three dogs) not to mention having 2 toddlers & I had to maintain it contained so I put the cat in my master bathroom (which is pretty massive) I have been dipping her but she still has it & about 2 weeks ago my son let her out of the bathroom & we didn’t know until she’d currently created her rounds around the residence.
Now our two labradors have ringworm. I’ve referred to as the vet & requested pills for the cat but it is $ 100 a month and could take up to 3 months to cure it. The vet stated they would not give me pills for the dogs unless I brought them in which is $ 40 a pop plus another $ 100 every a month for treatment.
I am sorry to say that I can only afford to treat one particular with meds & the cat has had it the longest so I’ve choosen her.
Are there any property remedies for this stuff? I’ve heard of Vicks and bleach.
Yes, if my youngsters get it we have medical insurance that will take care of it. We just don’t have $ 500-$ 600 to plop down appropriate away and $ 300 a month to keep up with it.

I am not completely sure. But I am completely sure that your toddlers can and will get it if it is not treated. If your children get it will you have the funds for it then? (Not to be rude…home remedys are not always safe.)
i’ve heard you are supposed to use antifungal cream.
not sure if you can get that at a local pet store but look around.
and disinfect EVERYTHING, even if you have insurance, its better just not catching ringworm at all.
Well ringworm is a relatively mild fungus infection. On humans you usually use an athlete’s foot remedy, like Miconazole.
Now I haven’t tried this but some people have gotten great results with fungus infections: go to the health food store and buy Pau d’Arco in capsule or tea form. If tea, feed them Pau d’Arco tea instead of water. It tastes fine. Otherwise, give them the pills. I’ve never heard of anybody getting an overdose; you can drink as much tea as you want.
You should be able to be antifugal cream over-the-counter and apply that on the ringworm with gloves at least once a day. I would still try to keep all your pets quarantined. If at all possible get color safe bleach for everything they have come in contact with because the ringworm can actually seep into things (including walls etc) and remain there until it is cleansed out to be passed to whoever might get it next. Our told us about that and made us bleach our entire facility so that we would not have random outbreaks of ringworm much later on (which is how the outbreak started in the first place).
Keep in mind that ringworm does take awhile to clear up and before you put your guard down I would take all your pets in for a negative skin scrape or you might be repeating the whole process over again! Hopefully your vet doesn’t charge an outrageous amount of money for that.. ughh vet bills
If its any consolation, I work at a shelter and we had a ringworm out break in the cat room recently. A few employees still needed to go in there to clean on a daily basis and I decided to be one of them. We ended up discovering that out of everyone that works there, only one person actually is suseptable to it (out of over 10).
* also there is a pill that you can give to cats and dogs that have ringworm to keep them from getting it again in the near future that we used. I think it is revolution but possibly capster. I will check and get back to you on that.
The old remedy for ringworm – if it is a round patch on the skin with no hair – is to crush a clove of garlic and rub it in.
